How to find out which version of Java you’re running on macOS

Also, proof that it works.

As far as I can tell, when I google this question I get answers that are years out of date, and stupid. No-one who uses java wants to launch the System Preferences control panel even if there were a Java control panel in it like there once was.

  1. Go into terminal (or, more likely, iTerm or Visual Studio Code‘s terminal).
  2. Type java -version

There is no step 3.

Oh, and fuck Java.

Oh and to install Java you can go here (again, finding this out can be a huge pain).

I’m glad they have technologies in the URL because we all know what a dizzying array of non-technology-related java downloads there are.
