More Lens Review Sites
\nAs a result of all this research, I contemplated creating a lens review metasite (turns out nikonlensreviews.com is taken, oh well) and then decided I'd do some due diligence.\n\nThe Wikipedia entry which lists all F-mount lenses with integrated autofocus motors (which I came across while trying to compile a definitive list of F-mount lenses) links to two lens review sites I hadn't come across: SLRgear and LensTip. SLRgear's \"official review\" coverage is quite spotty, but it is integrated with user reviews. Sadly, I think Amazon's reviews are probably more useful. Lenstip is mainly built on translations of Polish lens reviews (lovely unidiomatic English). It has the advantage of not trying to reduce everything to a numerical rating, but I find the conclusions pretty wishy-washy. Overally, I think Rockwell and Photozone have little to fear from these sites.\n\nSo, I think there's scope for a lens meta-review site, but (a) I'm not that interested, and (b) I think such sites are parasitic. In the case of a meta-review site that redirects you to reviews on Rockwell's sites, it would be a case of \"And little fleas have lesser fleas\". So the real answer is to create a proper review site (which is what dxomark would be if they could just get reviews out at a decent rate, and went back and reviewed some older lenses).\nFinal Notes
\nThe images in this post were shot RAW (on a D7000), imported using Finder, brought into Acorn with default Apple RAW importer settings (which applies very subtle sharpening). The smaller images were downsampled using Acorn's default scaling algorithm (Lanczos). To my eye, none of these photos are \"tack sharp\", but they're all sharp enough. In most cases, much of the blur is a result of shooting moving targets at low shutter speeds hand-held.","$updatedAt":"2024-06-05T09:10:30.271+00:00",path:"trying-to-pick-lenses",_created:"2024-07-09T20:29:17.527Z",id:"4992",_modified:"2024-07-09T20:29:17.527Z","$id":"4992",_path:"post/path=trying-to-pick-lenses"}}
