Building scenarios for the MARS engine is a highly involved process. There are three things needed to build a scenario. The first is vital, the other two are optional:
These are vital. Without a good idea for a scenario, you'll never get anywhere. A scenario idea doesn't have to be a story -- it could simply be an idea for an interesting place to "be".
Building MARS scenarios requires both scripting (in MARS's relatively simple scripting languages) and extensive use of ResEdit (although we're working on reducing this). It's hardly rocket science, but it's not exactly SimpleText either.
Creating new types of terrain or items requires artistic skills. You'll need to work with a program like Studio/8, Pixelpaint, or Brushstrokes. Creating new monsters and characters requires the ability not only to draw but to animate. The Scenario Toolkit includes "Reanimator" -- a tool for constructing animated figures out of individual animation frames.
We can help you by creating particular items on request, or by putting you in touch with artists.
